Slum Visits: Tourism or Voyeurism?

Thanks to Yasmin for the tip. The New York Times had an interesting article a few months back discussing "Slum Tourism." Is it just voyeurism? Does it lead to any benefits?

That's a great article, thanks. As far as which is it, I think it's voyeurism all the way. I don't understand what pleasure people can get out of paying to stare at those less fortunate.
