Google going after a new trend? Supporting Green Technologies.

Internet giant Google has said that it will invest hundreds of millions of dollars in alternative energy technology projects that would otherwise have difficulty getting funds.

The company has said that it aims to help promising technologies to achieve scale to help bring down the cost of alternative energy production. The action came about through realization that the cost of developing real utility-scale generation from sources such as solar power required greater upfront investment than venture capitalists were prepared to put in.

Google has already committed $20m to start-up firms carrying out research on aspects of solar, geothermal and wind power.

Michelle,

Thanks for the article, CSR is a big news now and putting considerable pressure on large corporations to make a difference. You may want to visit the 'Virtual energy foum' which was held recently and you will see how this is building impetus in the US

You know of a contact at Google to source this investment?

Thanks

Gregg
