Sustainable Tourism Development in Vietnam

HANOI, June 30 Asia Pulse - "An US$11.1 million project to promote sustainable tourism development will be carried out in five of Vietnam's poorest provinces.

The targeted provinces, including Cao Bang and Bac Kan in the north, Thua-Thien Hue, Quang Binh and Quang Tri in the central region, have potential for tourism development.

The five-year project is part of the Greater Mekong Sub-region Sustainable Tourism Development Project funded by the Asian Development Bank.

The project will improve tourism-related infrastructures, support pro-poor community-based tourism projects, facilitate private sector participation in tourism marketing and promotion.

It also aims to reduce the rates of poor households, contribute to economic growth, increase employment and promote the conservation of natural and cultural heritage in the beneficiary areas."

Who are the consultants working on this?

Not sure if this answers your question, but did a little digging on the web and ADB site...the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has a PR from 2006, found here, where it refers to Ludwig Riedr at the Sustainable Tourism Development Consulting Group.

A 2005 report from the ADB discussing the project might be useful as well...found here (PDF).

Will let you know if I come across anything more helpful!

Hi Santanu,

Actually I have been asked recently to look at some work for the "lagging states" in India in the tourism area. The focus here will be using tourism to assist in rural development. Can you tell me more about yourself and work you do?

Cheers............. Len

Looks like recruitment of consultants is taking place this month (September). The project page on the ADB site has further details, including contact info of the project officer.
